How to Take a Picture from A Video
Didn’t you ever try to capture a photo from a video? I believe we all tried; some fail, and some become successful. I am going to share a few methods on how to take a picture from a video. And I hope you will find these methods significantly easy so that no one will become a failure by following them. Let’s fasten your seat belt and ready for take-off.
Why take Screenshots?
Why do you need to take a snap from a video? Because now we talk more through an image.
Photography is quite a time-consuming process. Even expensive, sometimes. You’d try hard to make each picture count. You will not find a person who took images their parking spot to keep from losing their car, or of a price tag in a store just to comparison shop.
However, different software’s made it easy to capture an image from a video. Now, whoever carries a laptop or own a desktop, without any hassle, they can capture an image from a video. Inevitably, we take pictures that we love or want to share in social media. Photographs are visual communicators. And like you are writing, your visual communication needs to be clear, concise, and to-the-point.
Screenshot tools will let you do that with your digital life. You might take a snap from a video something to remember or share it—and you’ll screenshot for the same reason. Screenshots are the simplest way to share your screen with anyone, anywhere. Whether it’s a leakage video of any celebrity or a movie clip or any other video that you are thinking of taking a photograph for your reason, everyone has ideas to take screenshots.

Learn to take a picture from a video
Below I will share some popular and widely used software’s that we can use to make a snapshot from a video. Go through intently.
Method 01: VLC Media Player
The VLC media player is one of the most popular media players in terms of download. It is regularly asking for the updates that are available with new features and supports 64-bit versions of windows. You can take a snapshot while running a video using VLC media player. Even when the video is paused, you can perform this action. However, this feature is not much else except taking a snapshot. To begin the task, follow the steps below.
Step 01: Open a video using VLC Media Player.
Step 02: While running the video, simply click on Video and then select Take a Snapshot option.


That’s all you need to do with VLC Media Player to take a picture. If you would like to take a couple of images, the VLC media player is best. But if you are looking for more features, I would suggest you use GOM player.
Method 02: Classic Media Player
Classic Media player, one of my favorite. You know, the one that looks like it’s from the days of Windows XP? Don’t let looks deceive you, though, because it’s a very versatile media player. This media player was free, lightweight, and customizable in case if you need more from it. Anyway, taking a picture using Classic Media Player is also significantly simple. Have a look at the below steps
Step 01: Open a video using Classic Media Player.
Step 02: Go to File > Save Image.
It’s all done. You see, how easy to take a picture using Classic Media Player. I think you were not aware of this feature of the Classic Media Player. Isn’t it?
Method 03: GOM Player
GOM Player is one of the most versatile audio and video players. It has many and most popular codecs built into it. This player contains many codecs named XviD, DivX, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, H263, and to name a few. The availability of these codecs is giving you the freedom of not installing any codecs separately. GOM Player is able to play broken AVI files or AVI files that have not been completely downloaded yet. So if you have an AVI file that you could only download a portion of, the GOM player will permit you to have a look at the downloaded part.
Another cool feature of the GOM player is that it has a built-in screen capture utility that you can use to capture still images of the video that you’re currently playing. There are also a couple of other programs available that let you do the same thing. Still, the GOM player is more refreshing because it includes a Burst Capture feature that enables you to take continuous screenshots of up to 999 still images!
Let’s start taking a picture using GOM player
Step 01: Open a video with the GOM player.
Step 02: Click on the Control Panel option that is located at the bottom right corner of the player.
Step 03: There, you will find the Screen Capture option to take a picture from video.
Also, another feature is available that is named Advanced Capture. Using this feature, you will be able to configure the video quality as per your requirement.
You can configure the destination directory for the still images, the image format (JPEG or BMP), the quality of the JPEG, the burst capture images (number of pictures you want to capture), and the burst interval in seconds. You can also quickly set the current frame as your Windows background.
Even if you find the video bit dark or light than your expectation, you can adjust the level of brightness and contrast easily in this section.
Method 04: Windows Media Player
In this section, I will show you how to take a picture from a video using Windows Media Player in Windows 10 and Windows 7.
Windows 10
Step 01: Open Windows Media player.
Step 02: Click on the Videos option from the upper-left side of the WMP. You may find a video option is taking a bit longer time if you did not open any video using WMP earlier.
Step 03: Open a video for which you want to take a picture.
Step 04: After opening the video, drag the slider to the right and go to the frame in the video that you want to take a snapshot.
Step 05: Pause the video by clicking on the Pause button. Or you can hit the Space bar to do the task successfully.
Step 06: If you need, you can see the full-screen of the video. Simply double-click on any part of the video’s window to do this.
Step 07: Get ready for the final step. At the same time, Press Windows and PrtScr key. The Windows key is at the bottom-left side of the keyboard, and the PrtScr key is at the top-right side of the keyboard. The screen light will become a little bit dim, which is confirming that the screenshot has been taken.
- The screenshot will save at the “Screenshot” folder on your computer, which will seem in the “Pictures” folder after you’ve taken at least one screenshot.
- The wording of the “PrtScr” key will vary from computer to computer. You may find Prt Sc or Prt Scr in your keyboard.
Windows 07
Step 01: Open Windows Media player.
Step 02: Click on the Videos option from the upper-left side of the WMP. You may find a video option is taking a bit longer time if you did not open any video using WMP earlier.
Step 03: Open a video for which you want to take a picture.
Step 04: After opening the video, drag the slider to the right and go to the frame in the video that you want to take a snapshot.
Step 05: Pause the video by clicking on the Pause button. Or you can hit the Space bar to do the task successfully.
Step 06: If you need, you can see the full-screen of the video. Simply double-click on any part of the video’s window to do this.
Step 07: Open Start Menu.
Step 08: Type Snipping tool. This tool is the best way to tale a screenshot from video in Windows 07. (You can use this tool in Windows 10 also if you don’t have PrtScr key on your keyboard)
Step 09: Click on the Snipping tool once you found it. It looks like a pair of scissors. You’ll find this at the top of the window.
Step 10: You will find a Drop Down Menu sign beside the Menu option. Click on this.
Step 11: Choose Rectangle Snip from the drop-down menu. This option will allow you to draw a box around the area that you want to take a screenshot without including non-video sections of the screen.
Step 12: Select New from the top-left corner of the Snipping Tool window.
Step 13: Click the top-left corner of the video’s window and drag down into the bottom-right corner of the window.
Step 14: Doing Step # 13 means you have already taken a screenshot. Everything inside the rectangle area is under the screenshot.
Step 15: Save your screenshot by clicking on the Save option. It’s a square, floppy disk-shaped item at the top of the Snipping Tool window.
Step 16: Select a location where you want to save this screenshot.
Step 17: Give the name of the screenshot into the “Filename” text box.
Step 18: Finally, click the Save button to save the screenshot at your designated folder.
Method 05: GoPro Studio
GoPro is a free software to let you capture an image from a video. It is user-friendly and will be one of the best choices if you select it to complete the task. Follow step by step
Step 01: Click on the video clip in the timeline (under the playback window).
Step 02: Drag the Play Bar to the right and find the exact point from the video to take a picture. To complete it quickly, you can just playback your video and stop at the frame you want to export. If you’re going to do more precisely, use arrows right next to the stop/play button. These arrows will let the playback from one frame back or one frame forward.


Step 03: Once you find your desired portion to take the snap, go to the Menu option and click File > Export > Still Image.


GoPro Studio will ask what size of the picture you require. You can leave this on default Actual size. Then you can change the folder where you want to save it. You can also rename the file.
Method 06: Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the most widely used software to edit as well as to take a picture from a video. It is even easier to extract your favorite image from this program.
Step 01: Open Adobe Premiere Pro.
Step 02: You will get 4 quadrants in the window. Video files are the bottom left quadrant. Click on the video file, and you have to be in the Media Browser tab to see the files.


Step 03: The video will come in the top left quadrant, and you should click on the playback to start the video. Similar to the earlier way, you need to stop or pause the video at the desired point. Arrow option us also available to get the desired location more precisely.


Step 04: There is a little icon of a camera on the very end and export your picture — alternatively, press Ctrl + Shift + E, which is a shortcut key.


Step 05: You can alter the name of the picture, extension, and target folder where it will be saved.
